How a Focused Education Leads to Future School Choices

Beginning with the end in mind... that is how we design the Wilson School student experience.  Our top-tier curriculum and comprehensive work with families lead to our students attending the secondary schools that are best for them upon graduation. Given that St. Louis has some of the most highly regarded secondary schools in the US, admission to them can be quite competitive.  Wilson students stand out, however - 9 out of 10 are accepted into their first choice school, and 100% into their first or second choice.

Why do Wilson students have an edge?

Academically, they are advanced and are more than ready for the high expectations of rigorous secondary school programs. Wilson’s accelerated academics lead to students mastering about 125% of a grade-level curriculum each academic year.  The cumulative effect is that our sixth graders are working one-to-three grade levels ahead of their peers in every subject. Beyond an advanced curriculum, Wilson students also learn how to stay organized and gain a strong work ethic.  They are ready for demanding academics and increased independence.

Still, it takes more than academic preparedness to thrive in secondary school and beyond. This is why Wilson’s educational approaches emphasize collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and character.  Our students think for themselves and outside of themselves. Furthermore, our attention to mindfulness and social-emotional learning helps students to employ tactics of attention to task and self-regulation, crucial skills for navigating the world as they grow.

Wilson places uncompromising attention on preparing students for their future, and we support the whole family in their search for a secondary school.  Beginning in fourth grade, the school educates families about school options in the St. Louis area, as well as the steps to take in applying to and selecting a best-fit school.  Our upper-grade teachers and administrators consider stewarding families through this process as an important part of their jobs.  Each year families express their gratitude for this care and attention, especially when they encounter families at other schools who do not experience the same level of support. Wilson stands out in our dedication to positive outcomes for the whole family.

There’s nothing that we love more than seeing our students continuing to flourish and be successful after graduation, so you can trust The Wilson School to prepare students and families for this important transition.

Thad, I could not agree with you more! The Wilson teachers and staff made the search for secondary schools easy. We heard from secondary school admission personnel at various schools how well prepared Wilson students are when they start in the 7th grade. We have had two kids graduate from Wilson and go to John Burroughs, and both of our kids transitions were seamless. Most of their Wilson classmates are with them in advanced math and while many of the kids are learning organizational strategies; they already have them. Great Job!!!
