Technology
For today’s students technology is essential. Technology instruction at Wilson is driven by the classroom curriculum. Our goal is to challenge students to use technology to increase their knowledge, expand their thinking, foster creativity and enhance their communication skills. Students and teachers have full access to computers, printers, scanners, projectors, digital cameras, video cameras, and interactive whiteboards. Each classroom maintains and updates a webpage regularly to keep families well informed.
The early childhood classes integrate technology into their programs on a daily basis. Each early childhood classroom has access to laptop computers and iPads. Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten classrooms have interactive whiteboard systems installed. The teachers use the technology tools that best match the curriculum and developmental level for their particular grade. First through sixth grade classes schedule visits to the technology lab as needed. The technology projects these students are challenged with aim to improve their technology skills as well as enhance the classroom curriculum. Some examples of projects these students complete include illustrating original work, typing creative stories, creating multimedia presentations, using digital cameras and video cameras to create movies, creating visual maps to plan writing, desktop publishing, and creating websites. Some lessons come from technology concepts rather than classroom curriculum such as keyboarding, Internet safety, and computer programming using iPad apps and MIT’s Scratch software. Students at Wilson receive instruction on how to use technology tools and digital resources in a safe and ethical manner. All Wilson School classes access our Immersion Wall, a one-of-a kind educational tool. Wilson strives to keep technology current and relevant to life today. In this ever-changing world young people today are connected in many ways. Collaboration and cooperation are key elements of our technology program that help our students be competitive in the global world. In all ways, technology is integral to what we do at Wilson. |
