Mathematics
At The Wilson School, the study of mathematics involves problem solving, reasoning, making connections, communicating, and exploring the world. Key concepts and skills are first introduced in the preschool and primary grades through exploration with concrete materials and manipulatives. In the upper grades, attention is placed on the mastery of computational skills, problem solving, and critical thinking activities.
Wilson provides a nurturing environment, in which students can develop a strong mathematical foundation. The math program is individualized at all grade levels to meet student ability and promote advancement. Special math-related events also enhance the mathematics program, including the 100th day of school celebration, Pi Day, and an annual Family Math Night. By providing a sequential mathematics program, integrated with other subject areas, Wilson students are prepared to meet future academic challenges. |
