The Wilson School has nine classrooms—one section for each grade level. Each early childhood class (PK, JK and SK) and each primary grade class (1st, 2nd and 3rd) has two lead teachers. All the children meet with every specialty teacher at least two to three times a week. In fourth grade, the homeroom teachers are responsible for the core curriculum areas, except for science, which the students have at least four times a week with the science specialist. The fifth-grade homeroom teachers are responsible for fifth-grade social studies, as well as language arts and literature for the fifth and sixth grades. The sixth-grade homeroom teachers are responsible for sixth-grade social studies and for fifth- and sixth-grade mathematics. Students in both grades meet with the science specialist five times a week. Our faculty is a mature, professional group with an average teaching experience of 17.6 years. In keeping with The Wilson School Mission Statement, the faculty reflects substantial diversity in gender, age, race, culture, religious orientation, and socio-economic backgrounds. Wilson teachers are devoted to learning. They seek new ideas through workshops, conferences and post-graduate classes. Weekly faculty meetings allow them to discuss school-wide issues, as well as to gather in smaller departmental and curriculum groups. Everything they do is designed to provide Wilson students with an outstanding academic education. |
