Classes & Curriculum |
Music at WilsonThe music curriculum is designed to help our students discover, enjoy and understand music not only as art but also as a means of self-expression. The core elements of the curriculum have been developed from the philosophies and works of teacher/composer Carl Orff and, to a lesser extent, Zoltan Kodaly. The following skills are emphasized equally in proportion to an individual student's development and achievement: singing, rhythmic movement, playing of instruments, reading music, and creating/composing. Music literacy skills are taught over the course of a student's elementary school experience. We try to provide the knowledge base that will allow and support the artistic talents within each student to flourish. All our students, in grades two through six, participate in choirs and play in ensembles. Our monthly assemblies provide a venue for students to share their musical skills. |
